The ECABIKE family
Main man behind the ECABIKE is Alex Heesbeen. After riding on an Urban Arrow cargo bike for years in the Netherlands, he went searching for a bike that was more suitable for the rougher terrain in the Western Algarve. An electrical bike, because these bikes enhance the outdoor experience. It makes cycling fun and easy, without draining energy. How Alex got here?
from School Runs…
In 2016 we bought a cargo bike to bring our daughters to school and to do the groceries.
We were amazed by the amount of stuff we could move on two wheels. Kids, dogs, crates of beer, we even moved a refrigerator for the neighbors. Yes, it took the Dutch cycling to a whole new level.
The bike won gloriously from the car, so we traded that in very quickly. The children loved the electrical cargo bike because they could sit next to each other and had the best view. Plus, mum and dad had enough breath left to sing along.
And on rainy days, they stayed dry underneath the hood.
The first sunny weekend however I took it out for a serious ride. Instead of kids I filled it with a tent and gear.

That first ride was magical, perfect weather, out there, camping, cooking my meal over a fire…
Many more trips followed, with and without kids, varying from 2 days to almost 3 weeks.
The Beginning
Ecabike started in 2016, by offering biking & camping adventures in Europe, using cargo bikes.
We would rent out the cargo bikes, and fill them up with camping gear for our guests to go on multiple day trips.
In 2021, we moved to the Algarve, taking all that biking and hospitality experience with us.
The camping concept is currently on snooze, mainly because of the lack of nice campgrounds, but we still offer great solutions on the crossroads of biking and hospitality.
And with a partnership with 50rebels, a unique Portuguese E bike manufacturer, we will continue to deliver our services.
